Kate Middleton Rewears Royal Wedding Earrings For Order of the Garter Service

Hurrah!  We haven’t seen these Robinson Pelham acorn earrings since 2011’s royal wedding!

On this rainy Monday, the Great and the Good gathered at Windsor Castle for the Order of the Garter service, the oldest and most senior Order of Chivalry in Britain, according to the monarchy’s website.

The order was founded in 1348 by King Edward III, who was inspired by tales of King Arthur and his knights.

The order only includes 24 Knights and the Sovereign.  Upon a Knight’s death, a new Companion may be invited to Order by the Sovereign, in recognition for his or her public service.

Prince William was appointed in 2008, making him the 1000th Knight in the Register.  The Duchess of Cambridge attended that particular ceremony.

Today, Catherine wore several crown favorites to the procession, most notably her earrings, a specially-designed wedding gift from her parents in 2011.

The custom diamond oak leaf and acorn earrings were commissioned by Carole and Michael Middleton to reflect the family’s coat of arms, which was created before the royal wedding.

Catherine also wore her Mappin & Webb Empress necklace today, along with a red hat by Lock & Co and a red clutch by Alexander McQueen, first seen at Diamond Jubilee Thames River Pageant in 2012.

HRH’s red Catherine Walker coat was first worn in Calgary, during the 2011 royal tour of Canada.

In the spirit of wedding nostalgia, The Duchess of Cornwall rewore her outfit from April 29th, 2011 as well.

Due to the rain, the usual procession from the Castle to St. George’s Chapel for the service did not take place.

Instead, Companions – decked out in velvet robes, insignia and plumed hats- and guests were driven to and from, a shame for those who purchased tickets to witness the historic event, put on annually.

Prince Harry is not a member of the Order of The Garter.  I’ll be discussing that in a future post.
