For the first time together, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge attended tonight’s annual Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

Their Royal Highnesses joined the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, the Duke of York, Princess Anne and her husband, Tim Laurence, Princess Alexandra, the Duke of Kent, the Earl and Countess of Wessex, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall are currently on a royal tour of New Zealand.

The festival, put on by the Royal British Legion, honors those who lost their lives in battle.  Attendees enjoyed performances by Rod Stewart, Pixie Lott, Andrea Bocelli and Gregory Porter, featuring the Central Band of the Royal Air Force, the Queen’s Color Squadron, the Band of HM Royal Marines, and the Band and Pipes of the Brigade of Gurkhas.

For the occasion, Catherine wore another lace dress by Dolce & Gabbana for the occasion, adorned with her crystal poppy brooch by Buckley London.

The earrings are believed to be a wedding gift from Charles, and have been worn by Her Royal Highness to several engagements, including the 2011 Sun Military Awards and Her Majesty Coronation Service in June 2014.

The Commonwealth’s dedication to honoring fallen soldiers is remarkable, and each November I’m captivated by the ceremonial tradition of Remembrance Sunday.

Royal commentator Victoria Arbiter echoed my sentiments tonight;  Arbiter, who is based in New York, was in London during the broadcast and was able to watch it locally.

“Oh America I wish you honoured veterans like this,” Arbiter tweeted.  “The #FestivalofRememberance is incredibly moving and inspiring.”

According to Order of Splendor, the Queen wore her great-grandmother, Queen Alexandra‘s wedding brooch.   The photos of Her Majesty and William having a laugh about something were superb; a tip of the hat to Chris Jackson for those wonderfully candid snaps.
