Last night’s Royal Variety Performance must have been a proper knees-up (I want to say my invite was lost in the mail. Having overseas friendships is a struggle sometimes), and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge appeared to have had as much fun as the performers themselves.
1. There Was Touching Between Royals And Ordinary Folk
Traditionally, it’s a no-no to touch members of the royal family. However, during last night’s greeting line, Prince William warmly embraced Ellie Goulding, hung on to the night’s host, Michael McIntyre and told Bette Midler that he was a big fan of hers.
Catherine, a girl after my own heart, held on to Midler as they spoke, which means that Midler should never wash that out fit ever again. On top of that, Wales Online reports that Midler curtsied to Catherine. Well played, Divine Miss M.
2. Harry Styles’ Epic Observation
Harry Styles said after meeting Kate: “I said congratulations on the bump. (Though) she didn’t look bumpy.”

3. Comedian Jack Whitehall’s Right Royal Joke.
Jack Whitehall (Fresh Meat, Bad Education) attended Catherine’s alma mater, Marlborough College. According to the Daily Mail, he explained to the audience how disappointed his mother had been that Catherine didn’t become Mrs. Jack Whitehall.
“She’ll be doing it tonight, she’ll be watching the Royal Variety show and I know what she’ll be saying – she’ll be like: ‘Oh look, there he is,” Whitehall joked about his mum. ”The black sheep of the family, embarrassing himself in front of the one that got away.”
Fun at the Royal Variety with Kate Middleton who was at my school! Told her she was the one that got away. She laughed. Will kind of laughed

4. McIntyre’s ability to make one laugh.
The fact that he got this sort of reaction out of Catherine means that he is doing the Lord’s work.
5. Dame Shirley Bassey’s curtsy, only second to Catherine’s when she paid respect to the Queen at the royal wedding.
You can’t teach that kind of reverence.
6. Catherine’s updo. And those Kiki McDonough sparklers. And that stunning DVF dress that shows merely a hint of bump.
Nailed it. Again.
7. This:
On November 25th Catherine will attend the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) Norfolk Capital Appeal launch at the Norfolk Showground in Norwich. While there, Her Royal Highness will meet families, volunteers and supporters of the hospice.
It was also announced today that William and Catherine will pay an official visit to New York City from December 7th-December 9th.
