This morning at 8:34am BST, the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth a girl,  an 8 lb, 3 oz Princess who is now fourth-in-line to the British throne.

Prince William was present at the birth, which came rather quickly following Kensington Palace’s announcement that Her Royal Highness went into labor and was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital just two-and-a-half hours earlier.

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am.

Per tradition, a formal announcement will be posted at the gates of Buckingham Palace, and a gun salute will take place to welcome the new Princess of Cambridge.

This was a rather quick labor, given how long royal watchers have been waiting for Catherine to have her child (some had camped outside the Lindo Wing since mid-April). It’s expected that both sets of grandparents will visit the growing family today, and it’s hoped that Prince George will make a public appearance to meet his little sister.

The palace has reiterated time after time that William and Catherine will make the decision privately. Some members of the media are reporting that the Cambridges will leave the hospital today, no though confirmation has been made.

No confirmation yet but it’s possible Kate and her new princess will be discharged and go home today #RoyalBaby

The couple will return to their home at Kensington Palace for a few days before heading out to their country home, a three-hour drive from London.
