Early last month, Christian Louboutin announced he was expanding his empire to include lipstick, a clever move that comes more than year after his brand – famous for its red soles and impossibly high price points – made its foray into beauty with a nail polish line.
Now, Louboutin is offering his customers another piece of art, this time resembling a vial inspired by the beauty and power of Nefertiti, complete with a crown cap and gold base that can be worn as a pendant.
The 38 colors offered come in three finishes, according to Vogue: Silk Satin, Velvet Matte, and Sheer Voile.
One has to ask, is it worth it?
I nearly passed out over the nail polish’s price tag ($50), only because I don’t believe in spending more than $8 on a product that could chip or smudge immediately after application. But, hey, some ladies love the Loub.
Then Louboutin went and created a $90 lipstick, because BEAUTY, ART AND SEXY RED SOLES.
Since the product is so new, no major sites have had a chance to review the vials full of color, but once they do, you can bet your bottom dollar I’ll share it.
One royal fan of Louboutin is Denmark’s Crown Princess Mary, who herself owns at least three pairs – 4-inch nude Simple Patents, white and grey snakeskin pumps, and every wardrobe’s staple, black heels.
Other European royals who covet the simple pumps include Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway:
Queen Maxima of the Netherlands:
And Crown Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece (ooh, sparkles):
