I think I speak for most of us when I say that it was love-at-first-sight on November 16th, 2010. The then-Kate Middleton had a glorious blow out, as well as a big ole’ rock on her finger, but it was the royal blue wrap dress that made girls the world over say, “I need that. Now.”
The dress was designed by Issa, a label favored by Catherine until it was bought by Camilla Al-Fayed, whose family doesn’t exactly get along with the Windsors. Still, that particular cut, in that particular shade will live on in photographic history as “the engagement dress.”
Penny Chic blogger Shauna Miller recently designed a line of affordable dresses for Walmart, and having met her in person wearing the wrap dress, I asked her if it came in navy. Sure enough, it does and it’s only $16.99.
Even though Catherine wore a pair of navy pumps to her engagement photocall, it might be nice to switch things up and pair your dress with nude heels (pointy or round-toe a la LK Bennett, totes up to you).
Perhaps add a bit of sparkle to the mix (I can’t help myself. I love glitter any time of the year)
Now, all that’s missing is a prince, a Garrard diamond ring and a title. Nothing a New Year’s resolution can’t fix, amiright?
