Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden gave birth to a baby boy today.

Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel announced they were expecting last September, a few months after her younger brother, Carl Philip’s wedding in June 2015.

According to Royal Central, Prince Daniel spoke briefly outside Karolinska Hospital in Stockholm where his son was born, confirming to the press that mother and baby were doing well.

The palace also posted about the birth on the monarchy’s website:

Update: the little prince weighs just over 8 lbs , measuring 20.47 inches long, according to the palace.

“Everyone is obviously very happy,” Prince Daniel told reporters, according to the Daily Mail. “I haven’t had time to feel yet how it feels to be a father of two, but it obviously feels good.

“Estelle is of course really enthusiastic and happy about being a big sister. “I have had no time to think about how it feels to be a father of two, but it clearly feels good

Prince Daniel told the press that the name has been already decided and the title will be granted tomorrow by King at the cabinet meeting.

“For us, this is unique” said Prince Daniel and confirmed he cut the umbilical cord.

“We asked for respect for our privacy four years ago, which I think you have shown,” Daniel added.

“I want to give a big thank you for that.”

Today was a bittersweet day for the royal family, who announced the death of King Carl Gustaf XVI’s brother-in-law, Prince Johann Georg of Hohenzollern, who was 83.  He and Princess Birgitta (His Majesty’s older sister) married in 1961.

The little prince is third in line to the Swedish throne, after his big sister, Estelle, who turned four on February 3rd.  He will not leapfrog Estelle to become king, thanks to the eradication of primogeniture in 1979, which allowed for Victoria to be the heir to the throne as the King’s firstborn, rather than her younger brother, Carl Philip.

Carl Philip and his wife, Princess Sophia will welcome their first child next month, so between the three siblings (Princess Madeleine has two herself), there are five grandchildren now in the Swedish royal family.

Births in other royal households aren’t as big a deal as they are in the United Kingdom, which saw fans and press wait outside the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in London ahead of the birth of both Prince George in 2013, and Princess Charlotte two years later.

Still, as nana once said: “Nothing beats new life!”
