It’s no secret that the Duchess of Cambridge loves tennis. Her Royal Highness has attended Wimbledon quite frequently, even before marrying Prince William in 2011, and is said to play the sport quite regularly.
In fact, they got approval this past summer to build a tennis court on the grounds of Anmer Hall.

The Sunday Times reports that Queen Elizabeth, who has been patron of the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club (where Wimbledon is played) for 64 years, will hand over the role to Catherine when the tournament starts this June.
The Queen herself is not a big tennis fan; according to the Daily Mail, Her Majesty has only attended the tournament four times since 1957 (her cousin, the Duke of Kent, is president).

The news comes as plans are being made to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday on April 21st, though public celebrations will take play in June, including a massive street party on the Mall.

Hardman is the author of Our Queen, perhaps one of my most favorite books on Her Majesty’s reign.
According to Hello!‘s Emily Nash, Hardman has already interviewed Prince Charles, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Catherine for the special, and footage of the family’s work from the last year has been recorded.
