The Cutest Things Prince William Has Ever Said About His Kids

To celebrate the Duke of Cambridge’s 34th birthday, one thought it appropriate to highlight his role as a father of two.

1. In late May, William carried out a series of events near London, including a Tusk Trust reception at Windsor Castle.  The organization’s CEO, Charlie Mayhew told Perry that William joked about “having a week off from nappies.”

2. “He’s a little bit of a rascal, I’ll put it that way,” William told CNN’s Max Foster after George’s July 2013 birth. “He either reminds me of my brother or me when I was younger, I’m not sure, but he’s doing very well at the moment.

“He’s growing quite quickly actually. But he’s a little fighter — he wriggles around quite a lot and he doesn’t want to go to sleep that much.”

3. William admitted that he practiced securing the car seat several times before he safely put George inside the Range Rover outside of Mary’s hospital on July 23rd, 2013.

“Believe, me it wasn’t my first time,” he told Foster, “and I know there’s been some speculation about that. I had to practice, I really did — I was terrified it was going to fall off or the door wasn’t going to close properly.”

4. “I remember when George was born, I forgot to work out whether it was a boy or a girl,” William told President Obama in December 2014. “The excitement of the event and everything else was just chaos.”

5. As an Aston Villa fan, the FA President told Gary Linekar on Football Focus (via BBC Sports) that he knows the right thing to do is to let his children pick their own favorite football team.

“The responsible thing would be to say, to let [George] make his own mind up, but I think I might be quite biased,” William said.

“I haven’t quite worked out how to play that yet. Of course he can support whoever he wants, but if he supports [Aston] Villa, it’d be fantastic. I’d love to go to the odd match with him in the future.  It’ll probably end up being that Charlotte is the Villa fan and George will go and support someone else!”

6. “At the moment bath time is quite painful, but hopefully donning a snorkel and mask might calm him down,” William said in June 2014 at an event where he took over from his father as president of the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), according to People.

7. “As you might have gathered, Catherine and I have recently become proud parents – of a baby who has a voice to match any lion’s roar!” William said at the Tusk Conservation Awards in September 2013.

“This is actually our first evening out without him, so please excuse us if you see us nervously casting surreptitious glances at our mobile phones to check all is well back home.”

8. “They say that number one is a life-changer and that number two is a game-changer,” William told a well-wisher at XLP Arts Project in late March 2015.

9. “There’ll be a time and a place to bring George up and understand how he fits in the world,” William told the BBC. “But right now, it’s just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing him as much love as I can as a father.”

Royal Ascot 2015: A Recap of Hats, Bea’s Fashion and Fergie

The Brits really love horse racing.  Like, a lot.

The five days of Royal Ascot are over, but it was a parade of jaunty hats, royals working themselves up into a horse tizzy.

A Diary of One’s Royal Stay In Palm Springs

Since becoming a California resident, Palm Springs has been a place of refuge for yours truly.  Some say the desert is a healing, peaceful place.  Even if you’re not into that holistic language (in the words of Avery Jessup, “hippie nonsense”) Palms Springs is SUPER.

Last weekend, The Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism invited me to take a look at the royal family’s history with Sunnylands, the estate of Ambassador Walter and Leonore Annenberg (more on that in a separate post).

Visit Palm Springs

I stayed at the newly renovated Colt’s Lodge, a boutique hotel co- owned by interior designer Jon Nelson and theater veteran Frank Young.  Each of the spacious 11 rooms on the property has a different theme, personally designed by Nelson.

You wouldn’t know it from the outside, but once you step through a glorious entrance and on to the property, you’re immediately transported into a lush oasis featuring sky-high palm trees, flowers, desert plants, sculptures and a gorgeous fountain that I tried very hard not to jump into (there’s a crystal-clear pool in which to do such a thing).  [Read more…]

Female commoners, may I have your attention. Former reality star and saucy model Sofia Hellqvist has done the impossible by marrying an adorable Swedish Prince.

Tell your mother to forget about the doctors, lawyers and hedge fund jamokes.  Your expectations just underwent a major upgrade, and now you won’t consider any man who doesn’t come with a title.

Prince George Has Himself a Time at Prince William’s Polo Match

Twice in two days!  Could tomorrow’s Order of the Garter ceremony make a hat trick for the Duchess of Cambridge?

After taking part in Trooping the Colour with Prince George and Prince William yesterday, Catherine took George to the Festival of Polo at Beaufort Polo Club near Prince Charles‘ Gloucestershire home, Highgrove.

Prince George Makes His First Trooping of the Colour Appearance

Today marked an especially unique Trooping of the Colour, not only because it was Prince George‘s first, but also because he wore a family heirloom.  The palace informed royal reporters including, Emily Nash, that George’s blue outfit with cream lace was worn by Prince William for his first balcony appearance in 1984.

If this is not the most gracious, chivalrous and well-meaning how-do-you-do, then I am a monkey’s uncle.

On Saturday, Her Majesty attended the Epsom races, alongside her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh and Princess Michael of Kent.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte Pull Off The Most Dignified of Photoshoots

Hurrah!  The throne’s third-in-line held #4 in his arms as the Duchess of Cambridge captured their first moments as an heir and a conspiring spare brother and sister.  Prince George, wearing his Rachel Riley cord shirt and short set (an outfit repeater just like mum), helped his two-month-old sister, Princess Charlotte pose for photos.

Charlotte was dressed in Irulea,  reportedly a gift from her nanny, Maria Borrallo’s mother, according to What Kate’s Kids Wore.

Kensington Palace released a set of four photos at 9pm GMT yesterday, each one taken by Catherine, who is an amateur photographer. [Read more…]

What Does Prince Harry’s New Knighthood Really Mean?

Yesterday, Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen made Prince Harry a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) during a private ceremony.

The Royal Victorian Order is given by The Queen to people who have served her or the Monarchy in a personal way, and can only be gifted by the Sovereign.

Now that Harry has been knighted, many are confused about his position in the royal family.  I asked royal commentator Victoria Arbiter to clear up any confusion regarding the prince and his well-deserved accolade.

Princess Charlotte’s Christening Date Announced

Today, Kensington Palace announced that Princess Charlotte’s christening will take place at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham on July 5th.  This is the same place of worship Her Majesty attends while staying at her Sandringham estate, and the royal family gathers here for Christmas service here every year.  The Church is also conveniently located near the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s country home, Anmer Hall.

The date was most likely selected because it precedes the Queen’s holiday in Balmoral, which she takes from mid-July to October each year.
