William And Kate Take India: Day One

You would think that as a (mediocre) writer, I’d be able to articulate my feelings about the Duchess of Cambridge’s outfits for day one of the royal tour.

But I can’t.  To borrow a bunch of phrases from the Kardashians/Rachel Zoe/Millenials, I legit CANNOT.

Catherine blew royal fans away with her three sartorial choices today, all a nod to either Indian designers or the country’s vibrant culture.

When William and Catherine landed on a British Airways flight, they attended a memorial for victims of the 2008 bombing at the Taj Palace Hotel.

For this occasion, Catherine chose a maroon patterned peplum suit from Alexander McQueen’s pre-fall 2016 collection, according to What Kate Wore.

I think many of Catherine’s fans will be glad to see her change-up the footwear, switching her from tried-and-true LK Bennett “Sledge” heels to the brand’s “Fern” stilettos, where feature a more triangular toe. [Read more…]

Tonight, the Duke and Duchess attended a reception at Kensington Palace, where they met young Indian and Bhutanese people living in the United Kingdom.

This was an opportunity for Their Royal Highnesses to learn more about each country’s people, culture and history.  It was also an opportunity for the guests to be in the presence of Kate Middleton.

According to royal fashion bible What Kate Wore, Catherine chose Saloni‘s “Mary” illusion dress for the occasion.  She first wore a piece by the Indian designer for a Fostering Network engagement in November 2015. [Read more…]

Playing Favorites: Kate Middleton’s White Alexander McQueen Coat

I remember the first time I laid eyes on it.

The date: June 11th, 2011.

The Occasion: Trooping of the Colour, the official celebrations of the monarch’s birthday.

Ah, what a site to behold.  The cinching at the waist, the tiered skirt…it was a coat I shall always covet. [Read more…]

Back in 2012, it was widely reported that the Duchess of Cambridge was into making jams and giving them out as gifts.

In fact, royal reporter Katie Nicholl specified that Catherine “started making homemade pots of fruit jam” while William worked as a search-and-rescue pilot for the RAF in Wales.

“She gave strawberry jam and plum preserves out as Christmas presents” in 2011, Nicholls reported.

Catherine more or less confirmed this during a teaser for the upcoming ITV documentary, The Queen at 90. [Read more…]

ITV’s long-awaited documentary, The Queen at 90 will air in the UK on March 27th.  Previews for the Robert Hardman-helmed special show fantastic clips featuring the Duchess of Cambridge in her first ever interview.

Catherine spoke fondly of her grandmother-in-law, revealing that her son, Prince George has a special name for The Queen.

“George is only two and a half and he calls her Gan-Gan,” Catherine, in a blue Rebecca Taylor outfit, said.

“She always leaves a little gift or something in their room when we go and stay and that just shows her love for the family.”  [Read more…]

Kate Middleton Opens EACH Shop In Tried-And-True M Missoni Coat

I’m a little jealous of the Duchess of Cambridge, aside from the obvious reasons (great hair, fit bod, happily married to a prince).

You see, children, I envy Catherine’s ability to recycle an outfit and make it look brand-new.  Not “gently worn” or “ran a Tide Stick over this grease stain” semi-clean.  No, I mean properly clean properly clean.

Such was the case today, when Catherine recycled her M Missoni coat (an outlet find at Bicester Village) to officially open the new EACH charity shop in Holt, England, near her Anmer Hall home on the Queen’s Sandringham estate.

Underneath the coat, Catherine wore her cornflower blue Zara dress, first seen when she and William left Buckingham Palace the Day after their wedding.

Kate Middleton’s Most Glorious Grey Looks

On March 14th, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge attended the annual Commonwealth Observance Day Service in a  grey Erdem coat with lace detailing.

It was the second time in a week I was delighted by Catherine’s sartorial choice; Her March 11th outfit by Eponine was just the kind of POP we royal watchers needed.

What I appreciated about Catherine’s grey look is that she made sure the ensemble wasn’t simply a dowdy piece of fabric that paired nicely with a hat.

Instead, she opted for a darling design that was both appropriate for the occasion and pleasing to fans (or at least some).  [Read more…]

Kate Middleton’s Commonwealth Day Service Outfit May Be Her Best Yet

To mark Commonwealth Day, the royal family gathered for a service inside Westminster Abbey.

Commonwealth Day allows individuals, communities and organizations to “promote shared Commonwealth values of peace, democracy and equality, and to celebrate the association’s rich diversity. ”

Her Majesty is the head of the Commonwealth, which includes 53 independent and sovereign states.  Some of the countries do not have the Queen as their head of state, but are still considered party of the organization.
