This morning at 8:34am BST, the Duchess of Cambridge gave birth a girl,  an 8 lb, 3 oz Princess who is now fourth-in-line to the British throne.

Prince William was present at the birth, which came rather quickly following Kensington Palace’s announcement that Her Royal Highness went into labor and was admitted to St. Mary’s Hospital just two-and-a-half hours earlier.  [Read more…]

Nearly two years after the inaugural “Great Kate Wait,” the press and royal fans have been vigilantly checking their phones for any update pertaining to the Duchess of Cambridge, who is reportedly overdue with her second child.

There was a bit of a false alarm early this morning when someone thought they saw Royal Protection Officers at St. Mary’s Hospital.  Then press officers showed up and made reporters (who are not allowed to congregate across from the Lindo wing until Her Royal Highness goes into labor) a bit nervous.  Did we all miss something?  Why are they loitering outside the hospital.  WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN?

Catherine was seen driving out of Buckingham Palace earlier today, presumably to take Prince George swimming, according to the Daily Mail.  This morning, she and William made a very kind gesture to those who are super-pumped about the new baby.  [Read more…]

Don’t Even Think About Bringing Your Selfie Stick to Wimbledon

I’ve been guilty of taking a selfie or two, but I don’t feel great about it.  Especially when Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Harry have both publicly condemned the somewhat vain act (Soz not soz MILLENIALS.)

According to the BBC, Wimbledon is the latest venue to ban selfie sticks, deeming them a distraction.  [Read more…]

As a holder of the Royal Warrant since 1866, Colman’s of Norwich is considered a British staple. The company first enjoyed recognition as”Manufactures to Her Majesty the Queen Victoria.”  The then-Prince of Wales followed suit two years later by granting the company a Warrant as Purveyors to His Royal Highness.  [Read more…]

Why “The Royal We” Is More Than Just a Love Story

Few books cast such a spell that the reader can’t tear him or herself away.

This is how I felt about The Royal We (Grand Central Publishing, 2015), the book born out of a labor of love that involved thorough research, clever plot twists and the imagination of two very funny women, Heather Cocks and Jessica Morgan, otherwise known as the team behind the hugely popular (and hugely witty) site, Go Fug Yourself.

Even Buffy’s getting involved:  [Read more…]

She carries out countless engagements each year, will surpass Queen Victoria as the longest-serving British monarch in history come September, and takes part in a parade put on as an “official birthday celebration” (despite being in June), but one day out of the year is meant just for Queen Elizabeth II alone.

On April 21st, 1926, Princess Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born to the Duke and Duchess of York on Bruton Street in London.  At the time, she was third-in-line to the throne, not expected to rule since her uncle David (who reigned for a short time as Edward VIII) was Prince of Wales.  [Read more…]

London-Based Biscuit Company Celebrates A New Royal Baby

Congratulations Text Royal Baby William Kate

[Biscuiteers]

I love sweets, and I’m rather keen on the royals, so when a tin commemorating royal baby #2 came my way, I was momentarily distracted from watching Twitter for any signs of labor.

Biscuiteers, a company started by Harriet Hastings and her husband, Steven Congdon, has been creating special-edition biscuit tins for royal occasions since William and Catherine’s wedding in April 2011.  [Read more…]

Today, journalists in London were briefed on the impending arrival of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge‘s second child.   Back in July 2013, reporters and photographers were camped out across the street from the Lindo Wing at St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington since the beginning of the month.

Things will be a little different this time around, with restrictions in place after lessons learned from Prince George‘s birth.

Royal reporters Emily Nash, Rebecca English and Richard Palmer tweeted highlights from the press conference, while royal photographer Mark Stewart echoed the sentiments of the entire press pack after news of “camping out” restrictions.  [Read more…]

1984: Prince William Meets His New Brother, Harry

As any firstborn can tell you, the arrival of a sister or brother is….fine.  My sister was born a little over two years after me, and I vaguely remember wearing a blue peacoat as I visited the new addition.  I think I remember wailing as my mother waved to me from her hospital window, wondering why the hell she had to stay there when I had to be taken care of.

Since then, we welcomed another sister, and by that point I was more interested in swimming and tic tacs than seeing a newborn (neither will read this post, and if they do, I REGRET NOTHING).
